Lighting Strikes!

I'm writing this post from my local library because of a recent freak accident.

Late Thursday morning a thunderstorm in my area fried my internet modem, my computer, and my phone line. It was really a bizarre thing, and I was sitting at the computer when it happened, just booting it up. We (my precious-pup Lucy and I) heard a loud explosion just outside the house, a spark of electricity flashed from the modem, and it was over. The strange thing is that I have a surge protector, and it remained unbothered. Thank goodness for cell phones.

So, it looks like I'll be down for about two weeks while the computer is in the shop and I schedule a technician to re-hook up the internet. Please excuse my tardiness of comments and pic-posting. Thanks for all the kind words and support and I'll see ya' all soon ...... maybe this will give me more time to draw ;)

Take Care,
Darryl (a.k.a. diddle)

I'm sorry to hear about your computer being fried, I just stumbled upon your blog by accident (and through it, your web page). Your art is fantastic! Really wonderful pieces. Just wanted to let you know, thanks!

Wow, tough break! I do have a question though. On your surge protector do you have a place to connect from the wall to your phone line (line in) with a corresponding place to plug a line from the surge protector to the modem? If you don't you may wish to get one. Because the main way computers are getting fried these days is because the phone cord sends a spike through the internet connection.

Yikes. I didn't realize that kind of thing happened anymore. I guess I better take the idea a little more seriously.

Good luck getting everything back in order!

If you purchase a surge protector that has the hookups for your modem as well most have insurance so you can recover your equipment at no cost.
